Atlantic Avenue runs east from I-95 through downtown Delray Beach, Florida, crosses the Intracoastal Waterway on a drawbridge and ends at the ocean on A1A. Swinton Avenue is the centre line of downtown: West Atlantic lies to the west of it and East Atlantic to the east. The list below follows the Avenue from west to east. For each stop we give the address and the hours or admission the operator publishes, and we say plainly when a place has not published them or we have not checked them. We checked this page on Oct. 20, 2026.

Every card below shows the address, the operator where known, and the source we read. Distances are straight-line figures from Atlantic and Swinton, not walking times.

Old School Square and the Cornell Art Museum

Old School Square sits on the northeast corner of Atlantic and Swinton, at 51 N Swinton Ave. The DDA lists the campus as home to the Cornell Art Museum, the Vintage Gym and the Creative Arts School. The Delray Beach Historical Society says the elementary school building went up in 1913 and is now the Cornell Museum; the DDA dates it 1913/14. The DDA says the Cornell Art Museum is free and open to the public Wednesday to Sunday, so plan a visit for one of those days.

The Crest Theatre on the same campus was Delray High School, built in 1925, according to the Historical Society. The 1925 gymnasium has two names depending on the source: the DDA calls it the Vintage Gym, and the Historical Society calls it the Field House. Our Old School Square page has the full story, and the GreenMarket sets up on the campus on season Saturdays.

Read about the history of West Atlantic and The Sands before you go.

East Atlantic: the blocks and the bridge

East of Swinton the Avenue is lined with restaurants and shops; our restaurants page lists places with published hours. Veterans Park, a City park at 802 NE 1st St just north of Atlantic by the Intracoastal, has a City lot at $2 an hour with a 4-hour limit, per the DDA. We did not check the park’s amenities.

The drawbridge carries Atlantic Avenue over the Intracoastal Waterway to the barrier island. The Delray Beach Historical Society says the first bridge over the canal, connecting the barrier island with the Town of Delray, was built in 1911. When the bridge opens for boats, traffic on the Avenue waits, so allow for it if you are crossing to the beach on a schedule.
