Delray Beach lifeguard hours for winter 2026-27, date by date

The short answer

The City of Delray Beach, Florida lists lifeguards on duty 9 AM to 6:30 PM through Oct. 31, 2026, then a dated winter schedule: closing at 5:20 PM from Nov. 1, rising to 6 PM by Feb. 20. The City's Ocean Rescue page says 9 to 5 instead. Both beaches are guarded 365 days a year. Nothing is posted after March 13, 2027.

Lifeguard hours on the Delray Beach public beach change with the clocks, and in winter they change several more times. The City of Delray Beach runs the beach, and the City’s Ocean Rescue lifeguards staff the towers. This page puts the City’s dated schedule in one list, shows where two City pages disagree, and stops where the City’s schedule stops, at March 13, 2027.

As of Oct. 20, 2026

Until Oct. 31, 2026: 9 AM to 6:30 PM. From Nov. 1, 2026: 9 AM to 5:20 PM, with later closings through the winter. The Ocean Rescue page says 9 AM to 5 PM in standard time. Recorded beach conditions: (561) 27-BEACH (272-3224).

Daylight saving time hours, to Oct. 31

The City’s Beach page says lifeguard EMTs are on duty from 9 AM to 6:30 PM during daylight saving time, March 8 to Oct. 31, 2026. From Oct. 20, 2026 through Oct. 31 is 12 days, counting both. After that the closing time drops by 70 minutes.

The winter schedule, date by date

The same City Beach page lists four standard-time windows. We added the day counts from the City’s start and end dates:

  • Nov. 1, 2026 to Dec. 25, 2026: 9 AM to 5:20 PM (55 days)
  • Dec. 26, 2026 to Jan. 15, 2027: 9 AM to 5:30 PM (21 days)
  • Jan. 16, 2027 to Feb. 19, 2027: 9 AM to 5:45 PM (35 days)
  • Feb. 20, 2027 to March 13, 2027: 9 AM to 6 PM (22 days)
  • The City's Beach page lists standard-time lifeguard hours of 9 AM to 5:20 PM from November 1 to December 25, 2026; 9 AM to 5:30 PM from December 26, 2026 to January 15, 2027; 9 AM to 5:45 PM from January 16 to February 19, 2027; and 9 AM to 6 PM from February 20 to March 13, 2027. City of Delray Beach: Beach (Parks and Recreation)

Across the 133 days from Nov. 1 to March 13, closing moves 40 minutes later, from 5:20 PM to 6 PM. Opening stays at 9 AM throughout.

The conflict: 9 to 5 on the Ocean Rescue page

Two City pages disagree. The Ocean Rescue page gives a flat 9 AM to 5 PM for standard time. The Atlantic Dunes Park page also says 9 AM to 5 PM. The dated schedule above comes from the City’s Beach page. The City has not said which is right, and its pages returned errors to our tools on Oct. 20, 2026, so we could not re-read them that day.

What we do: plan on guards until about 5 PM in winter, and treat the later closing as a bonus. If you want to swim late in the afternoon, call the recorded conditions line before you go, and stay near an occupied tower.

Guarded 365 days a year

The City’s Ocean Rescue page says Delray Municipal Beach and Atlantic Dunes Park are lifeguard supervised 365 days a year, and that Ocean Rescue lifeguards are licensed EMTs. The City’s Parks FAQ says there are two public beaches: the Municipal Beach, centered at Atlantic Avenue, and Atlantic Dunes Park. Atlantic Dunes is at 1605 S. Ocean Blvd., one block north of Linton Blvd. on A1A, and the park itself opens 8 AM to dusk.

Ocean Rescue headquarters is at 340 South Ocean Blvd. (A1A), phone (561) 243-7352. Use that number for Ocean Rescue business. For water conditions on the day, the City points to its recorded line, (561) 27-BEACH (272-3224).

Reading the schedule for a trip

The Delray Beach Open runs Feb. 12 to Feb. 21, 2027, per its organizers. That stretch crosses a change in the City’s list: guards close at 5:45 PM through Feb. 19 and at 6 PM from Feb. 20. Two spring dates fall after the published list: the Delray Affair, April 9 to April 11, 2027, and Art and Jazz on the beachside of East Atlantic Avenue on May 26, 2027. For those, the City has not posted lifeguard hours yet, so check closer to the date.

After March 13: not published

The City’s dated list ends on March 13, 2027. No 2027 daylight saving hours were posted when we checked. We will not guess them from this year’s pattern. When the City posts the spring schedule, this page gets a new line.

Before you swim

  • Swim near a lifeguard, at the Municipal Beach or Atlantic Dunes Park.
  • Call (561) 27-BEACH (272-3224) for the City’s recorded conditions report.
  • We do not print beach flag meanings here. The City’s own flag page could not be read when we checked, so ask a lifeguard what the flags mean that day.
  • Glass containers, alcohol and grills or fires are not allowed on the beach, says the City’s Parks FAQ.

More on the sand, rentals, dogs and access points is on our Delray Beach public beach guide, where the beach matcher helps you pick between the two beaches. Beach lots and permit rules are on our parking page, and a full day plan is in plan your visit.

FWC's three golden rules: keep it low (fixtures mounted low, lowest wattage needed), keep it long (only amber, orange or red light of 560 nm or greater) and keep it shielded (fully downward-directed and shielded from the beach). FWC also says to close blinds or curtains and to keep decorative lights off until nesting season ends on October 31.
